For a deliverable produced using a font file already on the PC, if it is not for profit, a commercial-use fee is not incurred.
This enables you to obtain compensation (cash, etc.) in exchange for your deliverables.
This refers to either a font file previously installed on the PC as a result of the purchase of some type of software (Microsoft® Office, nengajo (New Years' card) software, etc.) or a font file that you previously purchased.
A font file "as a separate entity" must not be extracted from software.
Cases where a font file is installed on a server are handled using a server-use license.
This refers to paper documents, images, logos, or other things produced using the font file.
Cases such as where a class is held using the font file itself are also handled as "deliverables."
Hardware or software in which the font file itself is embedded are not included. Such cases are handled using an embedding license.
Games in which font images or the font file itself are embedded are handled using a game-use license.
This term covers cases where you do not obtain compensation (cash, etc.) for the deliverables themselves.
For example, for a leaflet:
The "case where a store produces a leaflet using the font, and displays it in the store as a sales promotion tool" is handled as being "not for profit."
However, the "case where a leaflet production and sales company produces a leaflet and delivers (sells) it to a store is not handled as "not for profit." In cases like this, we charge a commercial-use license fee.
Postings to SNS such as YouTube™ are distinguished as follows.
- When the purpose is to earn consideration, or when you actually get it regardless of the purpose
(including when the consideration is paid by advertising revenue rather than the deliverables themselves)
-> We do not handle as "not for profit" .
- When the purpose is not to earn consideration and you do not actually get it
(including advertising revenue)
-> We handle as "not for profit" , but please contact us if you get consideration later.
For such things as logos, user manuals, and packaging, even if compensation is not obtained for the thing itself, cases where the thing is part of a product and compensation is obtained for that product are not handled as "not for profit."

As long as the font file itself is not modified, in your production of deliverables you can alter parts of a character, but depending on the purpose for which it is used, it may be necessary to obtain separate commercial-use license.
Regardless of whether the use is commercial or not, our company bears absolutely no responsibility with respect to the altered character image or deliverables.
