Using a font in a game

What is a game-use license?

This refers to the use of a font in a game (regardless of whether the game operates on a home video game machine, PC, smartphone, or other device) in order to display images, words, text, etc. There are two types of game use licenses: "for cases where character images are embedded" and "for cases where the font file itself is embedded."

What is a game-use license?

For 1 font for 1 year in 1 title: 50,000 yen (tax not included)

Example: 1 font x 1 year x 2 titles x 50,000 yen = 100,000 yen

For 1 font for 1 year in 1 title: 100,000 yen (tax not included)

Example: 1 font x 1 year x 2 titles x 100,000 yen = 200,000 yen

Approach with respect to titles

A sequel is counted as a separate title.

Example: ○○ Great Adventure 2

An extended edition is counted as the same title.

Example: ○○ Great Adventure DLC (download contents)

Font use on game machines (hardware)

In cases where a font file is installed on the game machines (hardware), an embedding license is necessary.
